Cheshire Village
As many architects say, good design is born out of constraints.
This project presented many constraints: a narrow lot, strict requirements from the neighborhood HOA, along with all the typical requisites of a building project. As a result, the project is deeply responsive to site, specifcally tailored to the needs of the client, and a beautiful example of what is achieved when we are pushed to think outside our box.
The house is three bedroom, three-and-a-half bath. There is a full basement, a covered front porch and a landscaped back patio. The exterior is inspired by the aesthetics of the California Arts and Crafts movement with the natural wood siding and timber-framed front porch. At the entry, a private den and open living room flank the foyer. The living room, dining room and kitchen progress enfilade to the back of the house, where a small mudroom connects the kitchen to the private, primary suite. Upstairs, two bedrooms and two bathrooms are for the clients’ growing children. The basement is intentionally left open to allow for all the future activities of the family.
