Just moved into my new Assembly house and I could not be happier. The house is stunning – it’s so great to see it come to fruition. Working with Ross and his team from the design phase to moving in was a real pleasure. They have been super responsive to all the inevitable issues that arise in the building process and taken care of them promptly and fairly. The process took a little longer than I expected (and I had hoped) but that was due to the supply chain issues that everyone has faced the last couple years. I’m just so glad to finally be in my new home and feeling the house love big time! I would highly recommend Assembly to anyone looking to build in Asheville- especially if you want something unique and special – Ross is an incredible architect, and the build team executed his design flawlessly. Ross and his team at Assembly are phenomenal! They custom built me a house in West Asheville that I am over the moon happy with. Ross is both an architect and contractor and his design for my house was so cool… so much so that it was recently featured in Dwell. And as for the building process, they are great communicators and very reliable, they stayed on schedule and on budget and were really transparent in helpful ways. I had such a positive experience working with them and would recommend them full heartedly!
We loved working with Assembly – they built us the most beautiful home and every detail was perfect. Ross and the Assembly team are great designers and build with sustainability in mind. Our house is green built and so, so quiet inside. Every detail of the design was considered – and Ross is patient and thorough. We highly recommend working with Assembly.
My partner and I just completed a home and artistic retreat in Black Mountain, NC with Assembly and moved in a couple months ago. I have nothing but great things to say about Ross, Brett, Leslie and their entire team. From the very beginning of the process, they were extremely professional, accommodating, and impeccable with their work. The design process was very smooth and inspiring, they really designed an incredible house that actually was way cooler than we thought we could afford with our budget. One of the things that really makes Ross & the Assembly team stand out is they not only designed amazing plans, but then very thoroughly estimated out what it would take to execute and then completed an on-timeline build while staying in the constraints of our budget. Many architects could design amazing houses, but to design a house and then actualize it within a constrained budget is incredible. The attention to detail along the way, and the consistent accountability they displayed was nothing short of amazing. Any issues during construction that came up were handled promptly, generously, and professionally. All of the subcontractors they enlisted were all impeccable, solid and kind, which is really really hard to find in the construction world. We absolutely love every detail of our home Assembly created for us, and I would recommend in a heartbeat the Assembly team to anyone looking to build a house and do it right.
We just wrapped up construction on our brand new house with Ross and his team at Assembly AB. I kinda feel like I just got off of a roller coaster and I mean that in the most positive way! It was a lot of fun, and I want to go again. I absolutely love design and a creative project, so working alongside the Assembly team was really rewarding. It was exhilarating at times, and overall we’re very excited and honored about the house they built us.
From the initial meetings, through the design, architecture, and construction phases, we felt really good about Ross and his team driving the project. We had great communication along the way.
Stephen was our project manager and oversaw the day-to-day. It’s clear that Stephen knows quality and he isn’t afraid to make sure it’s done correctly. This is a second home, and we weren’t able to be there every step of the way. My biggest concern was that we’d show up to the construction site and things would be shoddy, or incorrectly done–not once did that happen. Of course things happen, and it wasn’t always easy, but it’s a really nicely built house that’s energy efficient and well insulated, with lots of quality touches throughout.
It’s clear that Ross knows what he’s doing, and wants to build a quality reputation for his company in WNC. What’s even more impressive, is that he’s able to hold a team of architects, project managers, and subcontractors to that same standard. Thank you Ross, Stephen, and your entire team. -A+P
Alex and I just finished a build with AssemblyAB, and we are so pleased we selected them to design and build our three bedroom home nestled in the woods of Western North Carolina. Ross designed a very well-thought-out home that gave us everything we wanted. It was a pleasure moving through the design phase with he and his associates. Once we started construction, Stephen came onboard as our project manager. We live out of state, and building a home long distance can be challenging. Fortunately, we could rely on Ross, Stephen, and their selected subcontractors to complete impeccable work. Stephen’s approach was to ensure that anyone working on the house was able to produce top-notch work. He is passionate about following state of the art construction standards, and our final product is both solid and energy efficient as a result. My favorite part of our home is the obvious attention to detail everywhere you look and the quality of the finishes. As we move in, I am so proud of what we have achieved with Assembly.

Assembly designed and built our large addition onto our 1909 farmhouse. They did an excellent job and we have been so happy with the results. Ross Smith executed the architectural design which includes a bright modern kitchen with built in dining area and amazing barrel ceilings, an open an bright living room, a mudroom with full bath and built in storage, and a large and comfortable screen porch. He did a great job blending in the addition to modernize the existing house without contrasting the existing character too much. They were professional and timely and we really had such a positive experience working with them. Highly recommended.
We worked with Ross to design and build our home in Asheville and we could not be happier with the results! He is a talented architect and he kept the build process on budget and on schedule, which is almost unheard of. He was great at working with us to arrive at a shared vision that was in keeping with our taste but also took advantage of his creativity as an architect!
We were highly satisfied with the entire process of having AA&B design and construct our ADU garage/apartment. They were helpful in solidifying our ideas into a realistic design. We wanted a two car garage with a small rental apartment above it to help pay for the project. We were pleasantly surprised that they were willing to take on a relatively small project. We weren’t sure if it could be done due to the challenges of our site. They were able to come up with creative solutions to each obstacle we encountered. Now we have a home for our cars, bicycles and motorcycle and a very happy tenant living in the apartment.
Ross is an exceptional architect, and his team gets the job done on budget and on schedule, which is exceptionally hard to find. He has recently been featured in Dwell magazine for his modern aesthetic– it is truly one of a kind and he has elevated WNC’s architectural place on the map considerably.
