Stonebrook Trail
More often than not in western North Carolina, the topography of a site dictates much of the design. This is certainly the case with our project outside of Black Mountain, located on a narrow stretch of flat space near the peak of a mountain. As a result, the house is experienced as a progression of spaces organized along a single-loaded hall; with private rooms facing towards the wooded surroundings, and terminating in the combined kitchen, dining and living space which overlooks the valley and incredible mountain views. The clients are creatives, and the house will function not only as their home, but recording studio, artist retreat, and practice space. The organic and eclectic finishes on the interior reflect both the surrounding forest and the occupants’ personalities in perfect harmony.
